Please contact us if you have any questions about specific vehicle requirements.

Can tourists rent a car in Japan?
Yes. International visitors can rent a vehicle in Japan provided they hold a valid driver's license that is legally recognized for driving in Japan. Depending on your country of issuance, you may need an International Driving Permit (IDP) or an official Japanese translation of your driver's license.
Please ensure you bring all required original documents when collecting your vehicle.
Which International Driving Permits are accepted?
Japan accepts International Driving Permits (IDPs) issued under the 1949 Geneva Convention on Road Traffic. Your permit must be valid throughout the rental period and must be presented together with your original passport and home country's driver's license, where applicable.
International Driving Permits issued under other conventions may not be accepted for driving in Japan.

FAQ topic
Insurance & Protection
Is insurance included?
Yes. Every rental includes the basic insurance coverage required under Japanese regulations. The coverage provides protection within the limits specified in the rental agreement.
We recommend reviewing the insurance details before starting your journey to understand what is covered and any responsibilities you may have.
What does the basic insurance cover?
Basic insurance generally provides coverage for third-party bodily injury, third-party property damage, and damage to the rental vehicle, subject to policy limits, exclusions, and the terms of the rental agreement.
Certain situations, such as negligent driving or violations of the rental conditions, may not be covered.
What is Collision Damage Waiver (CDW)?
Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) is an optional protection plan that can reduce or eliminate your financial responsibility for damage to the rental vehicle following an accident, depending on the terms of the agreement.
CDW does not replace the need to drive responsibly and may not cover all types of damage or misuse.
What is Non-Operation Charge (NOC)?
A Non-Operation Charge (NOC) is a fee that may be charged if the rental vehicle becomes unavailable for future rentals due to damage, excessive contamination, or other conditions requiring repairs or cleaning after your rental. This charge helps compensate for the vehicle's temporary loss of business use.
Is roadside assistance included?
Yes. Roadside assistance is available to help with eligible situations such as mechanical breakdowns that occur during your rental period. Depending on the circumstances, assistance may also be available for other roadside emergencies.
Additional charges may apply if the issue results from driver error or negligence.
What happens if the vehicle is damaged?
If the rental vehicle is damaged during your rental period, please stop driving if it is unsafe to continue and contact the police if required by law. Notify our customer support team as soon as possible so we can guide you through the reporting process.
Charges may apply depending on the cause of the damage and your selected insurance or protection plan.
What should I do after an accident?
Your safety should always come first. If anyone is injured, contact emergency services immediately. Report the accident to the police, then contact our emergency support team as soon as possible. Please do not admit liability or arrange private settlements without our approval.
We will provide guidance on the next steps and assist you throughout the process.
Will I need to pay an insurance excess?
Depending on your rental agreement and the protection plan you selected, you may be responsible for an insurance excess or deductible if the vehicle is damaged. Purchasing optional protection products may reduce or eliminate this amount. Please review your rental agreement for specific details.
Are personal belongings covered?
No. Personal belongings left inside the rental vehicle are generally not covered under the vehicle's insurance policy. We recommend keeping valuables with you at all times and checking your personal travel insurance to determine whether it provides coverage for personal property.
Can I purchase additional protection?
Yes. We offer optional protection plans that provide additional peace of mind during your rental.
Depending on the available options, these plans may reduce your financial responsibility for vehicle damage, lower your deductible, or provide extra coverage beyond the standard insurance included with your rental. Our staff will be happy to explain the available options before you begin your journey.

Please review your rental agreement for the specific fuel policy applicable to your booking.

Fuel stations are widely available throughout Japan. Our staff will be happy to recommend nearby service stations close to your return location. GPS navigation systems and mobile map applications can also help you locate the nearest fuel station during your journey.
What happens if I use the wrong fuel?
Using the incorrect fuel can cause serious damage to the vehicle. If you realize you have used the wrong fuel, do not start or continue driving the vehicle. Contact our emergency support team immediately for assistance.
Repair and recovery costs resulting from incorrect refueling may become the renter's responsibility.
FAQ topic
Expressways & ETC Cards
Do you provide ETC cards?
Yes. ETC (Electronic Toll Collection) cards may be available upon request, subject to availability. Using an ETC card allows you to pass through expressway toll gates quickly without stopping to make cash payments.

If you use an ETC card provided by us, your toll charges will be calculated based on your actual expressway usage during the rental period. Payment is generally collected when you return the vehicle or charged later according to the terms of your rental agreement.
Can I use my own ETC card?
Yes. If your rental vehicle is equipped with an ETC card reader, you may use your own ETC card. Please remember to remove your card before returning the vehicle to avoid leaving personal property behind.
Can I drive on all expressways?

How do I pay tolls without an ETC card?
If you do not have an ETC card, you can still use Japan's expressways by paying tolls manually at toll booths.
